HMI Hardwoods LLC, is a North American hardwood lumber manufacturer, with over 40 years of experience. HMI sells kiln dried hardwood lumber and logs domestically and internationally. HMI is a fully integrated hardwood lumber manufacturing operation. We purchase and harvest timber and saw lumber at our own mill. We dry, plane, rip and package our lumber within one facility. Although we produce green lumber, we also purchase approximately 1,500,000 feet of green lumber monthly from other Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Ontario mills. HMI Hardwoods employs an average of 100 employees.

Reports To: Facilities & Maintenance Manager

Exempt Status: Non-exempt – hourly

Position Description: Assist with maintenance throughout facility.

Responsibilities: Communicate with operators daily on maintenance issues and respond accordingly. Help keep shop and associated areas clean. Preventive maintenance to be performed as to documented frequency.

Expectations:

  • Help maintain uptime throughout facility at 95% or better at all times
  • Maintain machinery components to support production goals
  • Assist in keeping machinery, equipment, and facility in compliance with all MIOSHA regulations
  • Be able to lift 50 LBS or more
  • Have own tools

Sawmill Manager

HMI Hardwoods LLC, (Hardwoods of Michigan) in Clinton, MI is looking to add an experienced Sawmill Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible to direct and manage all sawmill and sticking operations with overall responsibilities for safety, quality, hiring and training of employees, maintenance, and other production-related activities. This role will direct and manage all sawmill operations while striving to continuously improve all areas of mill performance.

Sawmill Manager Responsibilities

  • Coordinate mill activities with lumber sales to ensure the total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Ensure the safe operation of the mill by training employees in safe practices and eliminating or controlling safety hazards. Be aware of OSHA regulations and maintain mill in accordance with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations
  • Responsible for operating expenditures, manpower, wages, and salaries of mill workers.
  • Establish and monitor overall mill performance for production and quality standards. Monitor sawing of lumber to ensure logs are used for their highest and best use and waste is minimized
  • Maintain a preventative maintenance plan focused on eliminating or reducing downtime while effectively controlling costs
  • Responsible for the proper use and care of all company assets
  • Provide leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives
  • Encourage and foster a sense of positive morale among the workforce
  • Assess and develop talent at all levels of mill operation
  • Work with a wider network of managers to coordinate and achieve overall company goals

Sawmill Manager Qualifications

  • 5+ years of related management work experience desired
  • 4 years degree preferred, but not required
  • Flexible, adaptable, team-oriented leader
  • Proven ability to respectfully manage a diverse workforce
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook

Lumber Handler (General Labor) $500 Hiring Bonus

Location: Clinton, Mi
Departments: Mill Operations, Stacker Operations, Dry Process Production
Direct Reports To: Department Manager
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

Position Description: This is a general laborer, entry level position. The positions purpose is to stack and sort lumber according to grade marks.

  • Must Comply with MiOSHA and operational procedures

  • Ability to work 40 hours per week (Potential for Summer Employment)
    6:30 am to 3 pm or 3:30 pm to 12 pm
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

Although this is an Entry level position, there are * Opportunities for advancement.

Starting Wage $12 per hour- Hiring for both 1st and 2nd shifts

NHLA Lumber Inspector (Grader)

HMI Hardwoods, Inc. a manufacture of hardwood lumber, located in south east Michigan, has an immediate opening for an experienced lumber inspectors. Responsibilities would include grading lumber, which we produced through our sawmill, lumber purchased from other sawmills, and lumber, which has been dried thru our drying facility. Applicants must be NHLA certified. HMI Hardwoods is located in Clinton Michigan. We offer competitive wages, and a Benefit package which includes a 401(k) program.
